A PLACE WHERE LOVE GROWS.
Quakerdale Farms holds within its walls not just history, but a legacy of love that transcends time.
From its humble beginnings as an orphanage in 1851, the essence of compassion and support has always been at its core. As the campus evolved over the years, undergoing transformations, one thing remained constant: the unwavering commitment to nurturing families. Since it's inception, this land has been a center of agriculture. As we launch the next generation of Quakerdale Farms, we invite you to allow the land to bring joy to you and your family.
Our Lavender operations are underway! The first plantlets arrived on campus in April 2024. Plants will be for sale soon along with products. We will also be offering educational classes this summer. Stay tuned for updates.
J.W. Lavender Fields
Research & Development Lab
The lavender farm program is headed by local New Providence resident, Scott Johnson.
Scott has worked as a plant breeder and geneticist for 25+ years. In addition to commercially planting 40 acres this year, Scott is leading a research and development program to explore the cold hardiness for USDA Zones 4 and 5, genetic variations and field testing for 50+ lavender varieties and species of lavender.
Lavender Fields
Getting Started
The first plants arrived April 2024.
The new plantlets will make their way to our new culture lab. Tissue culture is a method in which small pieces of plant tissue are grown under controlled conditions to produce new plants. Our initial propagation process will take 700 plantlets and turn them into over 20,000 plants in the next two years.
Plantlets will be transferred to new media for shoot growth in the grow room.
A large part of this program will be our retail and commercial greenhouse program. At capacity, we will have over 100,000 lavender plants in the green house complex. Some of our lavender plants will be for sale Summer 2024!
Once plantlets are ready, they will be planted! We have 300 acres reserved for Lavender Fields. Planting will be determined on field testing schedule. We anticipate that it will take a minimum of 5-7 years to have all the fields fully planted. It takes 2-3 years for each plant to reach it's maximum yield potential. Plants typically have to be replanted every 6-8 years. Therefore, a rotational schedule will be implemented to make sure we have maximum harvest every year in a rotational schedule.

First Plants
5/30/2024
The first plants went into the ground 5/30/2024. Currently, we have over 3,000 plants on campus and the majority of those will go into Test Field 1.
Some plants will stay in the propagation lab, then the grow room until they graduate to the greenhouse program.
